Dear Congressman Benishek:
I am one of the 99%. Many of us who live on Beaver Island and in Michigan are seeing our lives decline as a result of the great recession which Wall Street Banks and Corporate greed have created.
Many of my fellow Islanders are suffering. Some are out of jobs or have reduced hours of employment due to not enough work. Many lack health insurance. There are various solutions to these problems, but solutions should be fair. Please stop protecting the interests of the wealthy, the Wall Street bankers and large corporations.
I have enclosed three of your propaganda flyers that were produced by right wing lobbying groups for you and were mailed to your constituents. “Retire Safe”, American Action Network” and the “American Medical Association” have an agenda that is not in the best interests of the 99%. It is very obvious where you have positioned yourself in your first term in congress. Please take me off your mailing list as these mailings are personally insulting, as I am perfectly able to read and understand where they are coming from. I was hoping that you would take the high road and not be driven by Washington lobbying groups.
I have read your voting record published by http://www.votesmart.org and I am shocked by many of your votes. It seems the environment, public radio, endangered species, and the rights of women are high on your list of laws that are to be eliminated or severely restricted. Your voting record is taking us in the wrong direction.
As a consequence, I will organize my fellow citizens here on Beaver Island, and work diligently to make the length of your term in congress to no more than two years.
As you know, your congressional approval rating is less than 10%. If this doesn’t show you that your record in congress is a dismal failure, I am not sure what would.
