“We Americans of today, together with our allies, are passing through a period of supreme test. It is a test of our courage–of our resolve–of our wisdom–our essential democracy. If we meet that test–successfully and honorably–we shall perform a service of historic importance which men and women and children will honor throughout all time.” -- Franklin D. Roosevelt
Why are you a Democrat? Because you believe in equality? Opportunity? Justice? What are your core beliefs or philosophy for how our state should be governed?
As Democrats, we are united by a set of shared values: community, equality, fairness, and opportunity. These values can – and must – guide our path forward. We cannot stray from these core values and central beliefs, but must instead renew our focus on them. The long-term health of the Democratic movement depends on our ability to stand together with the strength of our convictions to make our public policies reflect these values.
We welcome everyone’s ideas for ways to move our state forward, and we look forward to vigorous, passionate, and most importantly, civil debate. Everyone at the table is there because they are deeply committed to Michigan’s future, and they deserve to have the ideas they hold dear be considered and discussed respectfully.
